Antique Victorian (1837-1901) Scottish Moss agate pendant. This gold necklace features a slice of deep green agate from Scotland. This beautiful pendant has unusual striations across the surface of the stone. It is strung on a new 9ct yellow gold trace chain.
Queen Victorian frequented Scotland and her castles, the area became very popular to visit and Scottish dress and jewellery became very fashionable. During the Victorian era the English were riding on trains seeing parts of the country previously inaccessible, consequently souvenir jewellery was very popular and easier to transport.
The necklace is in excellent condition, measuring 4cm / 1.5" (including bale) in width and 2.3cm / 0.9" in width. The pendant hangs from a 18" chain.
